Publisher's Synopsis

Why are there four Gospel accounts? What is their doctrinal significance and role? What do they communicate concerning the earthly life and ministry of Jesus of Nazareth? What are we supposed to expect when we reach this point in the Biblical record? What are we to understand having read them? Even on a purely human level, the impact of this "one solitary life" has been far reaching and history changing. And of course as C.S. Lewis has famously quipped, Christ was either "liar, lunatic or lord." If he be lord, and he most certainly is, then what do the eyes of faith see put on display in the four-fold Gospel presentation of Christ? These are the issues we will endeavor to explore in the present study. Our concern here is not with devotional applications that give you goosebumps and warm the cockles of your heart. Jesus Christ is the man that Jehovah declares will overthrow this "present evil world" and who "in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords" (1 Tim. 6:15). Our preoccupation, therefore, is with "sound doctrine" that will produce a "sound mind" resulting in "sound speech." To that end, we will examine the portrait of Christ that is put on display in the four Gospels and look upon the "son of David" and "Son of God" that Israel was told to BEHOLD. David Winston Busch is a Teaching Elder at Columbia River Bible Fellowship in Vancouver, WA. His passion is for the edification of the saints and the magnification of the Lord Jesus Christ. He is committed to "the preaching of Jesus Christ according to the revelation of the mystery" (Romans 16:25). His books include Appointed, The Assyrian, More Than Conquerors, The Fulness of Christ and Up & Away.
