Publisher's Synopsis

'Behind The Narrow Street' is a mystery, romance novel with a strong historical background. It takes place on the Caribbean island of Trinidad during World War 2 where the Americans had three army bases. Many entertainment facilities were established for the 'Yankee' servicemen in transit to the European front. The well known calypso, 'Drinking rum and Coca Cola' was the antidote to this bleak time in the island's history. An American airman, Robert Lambert, falls in love with a young prostitute, Anna. With his growing fear of what awaits him on the continent, he decides to desert his post. This is only the beginning, as his family's name is connected to a plantation on the island during the days of slavery and to a child named Peter. Peter was rescued when a fire, that was deliberately set by the slaves, consumed his home and everyone in it. This forms part of a ancient African spirit world that is linked to the airman's grandson, who is also named Peter, as he tries to find out what happened to his grandfather. He discovers the now aged prostitute, Anna, and the mysterious tomb that housed the Lambert family.
