Publisher's Synopsis
Do you or someone you know live with invisible illness such as an autoimmune disorder, mental health condition, or physical disability? Do you love poetry? This book is for you.
Before it Bleeds artistically follows the journey of Elisa, a Dayton artist in their 20's who has battled multiple forms of invisible illness for 9 years and counting. Their poems range from raw, emotional pieces about depression and arthritis, to empowering writings about accepting physical and mental struggles in order to challenge stigmas. The book is split into two sections, 'the pain' and 'the progress' to acknowledge both the importance of processing hurting as it stands, and learning to live a full life with disability; not in spite of it. Elisa seeks to be fully open and keep readers informed, listing trigger warnings for disordered eating, sexual assault, self-harm, and suicide. With the vulnerable nature of the poems, Before it Bleeds is intended to help you relate, accept, and progress in your own healing journey. A message from the author:Thank you for even looking at my book! I love sharing my story in a way others can relate, and Before it Bleeds is my first published collection of poetry, doing just that. Whether or not you decide to purchase, I hope you find hope in your healing journey and learn to embrace possibilities in the pain. You've got this!
