During the Ottoman Empire, on the Ottoman land, Ottomans built their cities around the great mosques and the bedestens. Without a bedesten, the settlements could not be registered as a city. So in order to be a city, a settlement needed to have a bedesten. The bedestens were made from brick and tiles with leaded domes. In this book you will find out more about the Ottoman bedestens and the grand bazaar of Istanbul as it has the two most important samples of the Ottoman bedestens.
