Despite her aspirations, the path to a college education proved arduous, spanning 16 years to earn a bachelor's degree.
Her story weaves through the challenges of balancing personal life with academic pursuits, navigating starts and stops in her college journey, and seizing job opportunities along the way. Through perseverance and resilience, she ultimately achieves her goal, emerging as the first woman to be awarded a PhD in Agricultural Economics from the University of Tennessee.
She joined the Association of University Women (AAUW) and became a strong advocate for women and girls.
