By 2008 I had observed both my parents on more than one occasion be treated by what I thought was incompetent medical personnel. One example of this occurred when I visited my mother in the hospital after she had had an MRI. I walked into her room and she had 2 big badges on her breast. She told me they forgot to remove the EKG Snap Electrodes and sent her into the MRI. But what made it worst was that she told the nurse something was burning her and he told her it will just be another moment. She came out of the MRI with two big burns. This was just one in long string of instances that appeared to be malpractice to me. After about 6-7 similar instances I became inspired to embarked on a mission to learn as much as I could about health and wellness with the goal of solving this incompetence problem. I enrolled in college to study health and medicine in general and health promotion self-directed neuroplasticity for obesity in particular. My goal became the development of techniques to apply health promotion self-directed neuroplasticity to solve the obesity epidemic and then to apply these techniques to health promotion programs in the African American community and hopefully have an impact on their health and wellness issues. By 2014 I had completed a B.S. in Health and Wellness, M.S. in Psychology, and was finishing my second Ph.D., this one in Health Psychology. This book features the topics I studied, the researched I conducted, what I learned, the papers I wrote, and the theories and solutions I proposed to solve the obesity crises in general and the health issues in the African American community in particular. The theories, principle, and techniques described in this book are all based on the academic research I have been engaged in since 2008. Becoming Dr. Clinton D. Pearman, Ph.D. is the academic journey I undertook to earning a Ph.D. in Health Psychology and becoming the world authority on self-directed neuroplasticity for health promotion behavior change for obesity in particular and healthy life style change in general. Along the way one single theme keep coming up over and over. That theme is that your brain plays a role in everything you do. In fact it became obvious early on that the vast majority of health problems we face today have more to do with how your brain is operating than anything else. I learned that if you can learn to program the right beliefs, thoughts, and behavior into your neuronal circuits you can create the healthy lifestyle necessary to flourishes. Taking all this brain science, health and wellness science and lifestyle change science and synthesizing it into a simple step by step process became the motivation for developing Cognitive Optimum Performance Enabling Neuroscience (Copenology), the new science of initiating and sustaining behavioral change from brain neuronal circuitry and up. This book is also a call to action in the African American community to not sit by passively and let obesity destroy the lives of so many people when there is a solution, and it's called Copenology.
