Publisher's Synopsis

"Bavino" is ghetto-talk for everyman. In these new poems, the author looks through the destruction caused by those intoxicated by their own power, who put "vanity before humanity", in South Africa and globally, past and present. The hailstorm of rhyme echoes the random gunfire the insomniac poet hears every night in Soweto. Nevertheless, in these poems not all is bleak: "my love lives I hope survives the hatred that is sacred". Through his poetry performances in South Africa and Europe, Lesego Rampolokeng has become an established voice in international poetry circles. His first locally published collections were "Horns for Hondo" (1990) and "Talking Rain" (1993); since then two volumes of selected poems have been published in German translation.
