Publisher's Synopsis
Hideyuki Hirayama directs this adaptation of the novel by World War Two veteran Don Jones about the Japanese defence of the island of Saipan. Captain Sakae Oba (Yutaka Takenouchi) is stationed on Saipan when American forces invade in June 1944. Retreating into the jungle, he assembles a ragtag band of Japanese fighters and leads them into a guerrilla war. Making their base on the island's highest point, Mount Tapochau, the guerrilla fighters continue their resistance even after Japan's surrender in August 1945.
