Publisher's Synopsis
Writing poems everyday is liberating and inspirational. You learn to sit, watch observe - nature and human nature. Many of the poems contained in this book are autobiographical touching on my childhood in Mauritius and adulthood in Great Britain. I am 76, retired, former accountant, cancer survivor living in Montreal-Canada with my wife, who is also a retiree.
I now write poems for pleasure: sun rises-is this the beginning/sun sets-is this the end/Both are beautiful-beginning to end. Here's one about birds - The sparrow/does not understand/the mind of a swallow. In my garden I often muse 'The blue jay is still shy/we met a few times.
There's joy in short poems. They lessen the pressure of life. Like me, you may forget to worry when you see: The mountain/half in sunshine/half in shade/did I come late. All my poems are original, many were inspired by the likes of Basho and other Haiku poets.
Poem writing is a sort of escapism, your mind wander at will. You find beauty in nature, like a walk in the park, in the dark on a chilly winter night. You also come to appreciate botanical gardens, flowers in bloom, some like the cherry blossoms, long gone, the scent still in the air.
I hope this book inspires you to read and write. I write poems, but poet I'm not. I'll carry on writing " a poem a day" to have a nice day.
