On November 7, 1874, George S. Clason was born in Louisiana, Missouri. He went to the University of Nebraska and served in the US Army during the Spanish-American War. He founded the Clason Map Company in Denver, Colorado, and published the first road atlas of the United States and Canada, launching a lengthy career in publishing. In 1926, he published the first in a famous series of pamphlets on economics and financial success, illustrating each point with parables set in ancient Babylon. These were widely disseminated by banks and insurance companies and became familiar to millions of people, the most famous of which was "The Richest Man in Babylon," the title of the current volume.
