Publisher's Synopsis
B-52, also called Stratofortress, U.S. long-range heavy bomber, was designed by the Boeing Company in 1948, first flown in 1952, and first delivered for military service in 1955. Though originally intended to be an atomic-bomb carrier capable of reaching the Soviet Union, it has proved adaptable to some missions, and dozens of B-52s remained in service in the early 21st century.
