Publisher's Synopsis
This book contains colour photo-micrographs of the major ore-forming associations and opague minerals in non-mineralized rocks. It will be useful in training both students and professionals in the difficult technique of recognizing the subtle colour differences between minerals. One particular problem is that the same mineral can be optically quite different in different associations.;To overcome this, the author describes typical examples of each material from classical localities throughout the world and has provided each illustration with a parallel text. He lists the major (and more important minor) primary ore minerals, alteration products and gangue and typical textures. This is followed by a brief discussion of the geology of the association and references.
