Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from Asymptotic Theory of Wave-Propagation

The introduction of the general system of equations in chapter 2 was largely motivated by the electromagnetic field equations for dis persive media. In chapter 7 we return to those equations in order to demonstrate that the general theory which we have developed is indeed applicable to the electromagnetic case. In section the solution of the transport equations for inhomogeneous isotropic media is analyzed in detail. This leads to a discussion of the rotation of the electric polariza tion vector.
