Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from Assyrian and Babylonian Letters Belonging to the Kouyunjik Collections of the British Museum, Vol. 7

Parts I and II were necessarily confined to the Letters among the first tablets of the K. Collection, the proportion of the Collection covered by the first two volumes of the Catalogue. Among the tablets de scribed in Volume III, there were some Letters written by scribes whose correspondence, found among the first tablets, had already been published in Parts I and II. It would have been possible to have added these, as a sup plement, to Part I II. It seemed, however, more expedient to relegate such a supplement to a later place in the Series and to continue to break fresh ground.

Part IV was in type before the appearance of Volume IV of the Catalogue, and, for the reasons assigned in the Preface, the original plan was modified in some details.
