Jhy spends many hot summers with her favorite cousin in Mississippi. During those memorable vacations, she develops a crush on her Uncle Sugar who she later finds is closer to her heart than imagined. In the process of battling with living in a house with great parental discord, her father's emotional abandonment and low self-esteem; she turns to a friend as a form of deflection. Upon rejection, Jhy finds other ways to escape and release the pains; going through great lengths to conceal her depression and repair the cracks of her existence. After years of being an only child, there is a new baby I the house. She looks to her best friend Teagan for comfort and solace, only to end up chasing heartache again. As the pieces of her life begin to come back together, her mother dies suddenly and she is left to raise her sister Kanada. The layers of her life begin to shed when Kanada becomes deathly ill and all the family's hidden truths are revealed forcing past decisions to become real in there consequences.
