Believing that the true art of teaching, like Shake speare's banished Duke in the forest of Arden, Finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks Sermons in stones, and good in everything, and remembering how parable and story, in sacred and profane writ, teach by means of animals, plants, and every-day incidents, the articles exhibited by the Bureau of Education are designed to show how the method of nature in teaching has been and should be followed, using the text-book (which is only a concise and imperfect re'sume' of observed facts) as a useful adjunct, but by no means as the chief instrument for the education of the child.
