For thousands of years, humans depended on natural farming methods to rear animals and cultivate plants. The emergence of industrial methods of farming has almost made natural farming methods extinct. Although Industrial farming methods have enabled farmers to get many plentiful farm products in relative time, they have not done enough to support product quality. Important food elements and minerals which promote healthy living are usually absent in the food produced by industrial methods. The application of industrial methods in agriculture has shown that we cannot depend on it for long due to its unsustainability. Farm products are sharply decreasing in quality which results in deterioration of the health of individuals that consumes them; and of course, we all need to consume farm products to survive.
These products now take a long time to get to the final consumer as a result of the many forms of packaging, branding or storage processes they pass through. So when they finally get to us, so many nutrients and essential elements may be absent and may no longer function to promote a healthy life. It is at our own risk if we keep on depending on industrial agriculture. It is high time everyone went back to the good old ways of natural agriculture. Currently, it seems there is a strong shift in perception sin the agricultural world as regards to industrial agriculture. People, especially farmers, are now seeing a plethora of reasons as to why there is a need to go back to natural farming methods. Localization is fast becoming the new movement. People are now encouraged to buy, sell, utilize and promote wide acceptance of agricultural products produced in their locality. To bring back localization in agriculture, we can consider two ways in doing that: either we go back to how it localization was done in the past or we utilize science and technology effectively.
If we may go back to the old ways, it means we must apply the methods of agriculture that have stood the trials of time and are still effective. In this case, it involves the rejuvenation of conventional practices, small, organic farms that require a lot of work to be done on them. Going back to the old ways of agricultural practices requires proper land cultivation, the introduction of microorganisms in soils, that will be beneficial to the growth of plants and employing farming strategies that encourage locals to farm together in unity.
