Rendel, 14.7.53'The author, educated at Rugby School and Corpus Christi College, Oxford, was an S.O.E. agent in Crete during the Second World War - where he served alongside Patrick Leigh Fermor and W. Stanley Moss, both of whom are mentioned recurrently in his account.The endpaper map is sometimes seen to the verso of the flyleaf; we assume - and this is corroborated by the inscription at time of publication - that the version here, with the same map to the front pastedown, is the earlier issue.
