Publisher's Synopsis
This module offers an introduction to the medical humanities using materials from a variety of disciplines - literature, fine art, history, architecture, music, philosophy, and psychology - all explored in relation to day-to-day clinical practice. Some of the topics covered by the module are: communication skills; images of illness; medical ethics; and the many roles of the doctor. A video story about the illness experiences of a family and some of their friends and neighbours forms the basis of the module. The user is invited to explore four human "faces" of medicine in each of eight clinical situations described in the video.
