Coach Norton took boys who could hardly dribble a ball, had never learned how to even shoot a basketball and conditioned them, taught them and demanded they try harder and loved them. It was amazing to watch the transformation of these young men during the first few years. They came from "dust to darkness" to a type of "thunder and lightning" basketball, their opponent's came to know as the "Apache Wild Wind Basketball team" that was unbeatable. The Ft. Thomas Apaches became the "hunters instead of the hunted." Going from the backyard dirt courts, with car tires set afire and burning for lights at night, the winners of the coveted "Gold Ball Trophy" as the Arizona State Champions. This is a story that will make you laugh, cry, cheer and wish you had been sitting in the bleachers to see the "Apache Wild Wind " Basketball come to life.
