Estas anotaciones ser�n nuestro imperativo ca teg�rico. No haremos deja01on de ning�n derecho, por no esquivar ning�n deber. Si una fortuna sin merecimientos nos invisti� de un cargo honroso, por la honra de este cargo - que no en raz�n de nuestra poquedad - hemos de mantener sus prerrogativas. As�, al examinar per�odo hist�rico tan agitado como el que precedi� y coincidi� luego con las Cortes de 1820, no nos hemos de limitar al relato ingenuo, ha ciendo de este modo retroceder el tan augusto impe rio de la Historia, sino que, ejercitando su sobera n�a, analizaremos y enjuiciaremos sucesos y hombres ante el irrecusable tribunal de la documentaci�n.
