On entering London, and considering that all the wealth, power and glory before me has been achieved by my countrymen - that the most hidden corners of the earth have been ransacked by them - and that everything precious or use ful was here concentrated, I could not refrain from feeling a degree of pride, and was apt, for the moment, to assign our race a higher rank in the scale of intellect than I had before es teemed myself worthy of aspiring to.
