In the death of Dr. Brand, Pastor of the First Church, Oberlin College and community lost a devoted friend and helper. He was elected Trustee March 5, 1890, and was chosen as Alumni Trustee in 1896. Few men have thrown themselves into the Christian work of a college with a burning con secration equal to that of Dr. Brand.
