Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from Annual Report of the Attorney-General of the United States for the Year 1897

The relations of the Pacific railroads to the Government arising under the acts of July 1, 1862, and July 2, 1864, are familiar to the Congress. The steps taken to foreclose the lien of the Government, authorized by those acts and under what inducement they were taken, have been already submitted. (see Senate Document No. 83, second session, Fifty-fourth Congress.) A further history of the suits appears In the report of special counsel hereto attached.
