The decrease in total strength as compared with last year, is due to the fact that there is one infantry company and one Naval Division less than reported last year, and to the fur ther fact th, at many of the companies have reduced their mus ter rolls by discharging all inactive and inefficient men.

The several companies} and divisions are distributed throughout the State so as to give nearly every section the benefit of their services, should the same be needed, and all of them are located so as to be reached by telegram and it afford quick transportation facilities.
