Bookseller Notes
Inscribed by the author on the flyleaf: 'Janet Cookson, with gratitude and all good wishes from the author, Christmas 1950'.Her second collection; the first, 'Dunch' (Blackwell, 1918), drew positive notices from T.S. Eliot in The Egoist (he would later praise her novel in verse, 'Lettice Delmer') and Harold Monro. Active in various causes, including pacifism and women's rights, she had earlier published a pamphlet, 'The Cause of Purity and Women's Suffrage', under her own name in 1912 - but the majority of her work was under the Miles pseudonym.
