In the early 20th century, life in the Upper Tweed Valley wwas very different to that of today. This book, compiled from notes made by Andrew Lorimer, describes his personal experience of a way of life which had almost completely disappeared by the middle of the 20th century. He describes the life of the shepherds, their families and children and the hardships that were commonplace in the first part of the 20th century. He recalls his schooldays at the Tweedsmuir school and poignant memories of World War I, the arrival of the gramophone and the fund-raising dances. Old methods of fishing and peat digging are included, as are descriptions of the natural life of the area. The reader is introduced to people, places and events which combine tp provide a social history of the area at that time.
