Volume Four of the Secret in the Tangerine was dedicated slowly to endgames. Although most of the material found in the book was from the Elegant Pastime Manual, Zhu Jinzhen had made many efforts to categorize the endgames into different categories. His work would lay the foundations of endgame theory. Volume Four could be considered to be the ancient primer for primary endgame study. Zhu even added advice on how to play the endgames. As in the previous three editions of the book, the author has translated important passages, corrected some of the mistakes that were found in Zhu's work and also tried to present the endgames in a more user-friendly system.
