Orion knew he was not fit to be king, and somehow he was going to escape the prison that everyone called a palace. Orion was a turnskin, a human cursed to transform into an animal at will, and the constant misery of trying to remain human was tearing his mind apart. Bronwen wanted nothing more than a simple life of making pottery, and even though she loved Orion, there was no way she was going to agree to become the future king's wife. He ruined their innocent friendship the moment he revealed his curse and stole a kiss. When a witch attempts to capture the prince, Orion is forced to flee the palace with the only three people who can both protect and control him: Anders, Griff, and Bronwen. Anders and his brother, Griff, are next in line for the throne, and are determined to keep the prince safe and return him to his rightful place in the palace. Throughout their journey, the four companions are unaware that the witch is watching them each step of the way and waiting for the ideal moment to strike.
