Publisher's Synopsis
The small farming communities of New England are rich in history, and deeply proud of their independent and hard-working Yankee values. However, beneath this sanitized exterior--with its gleaming white church steeples, beautiful forests, and rolling green meadows--there is a darker side that only few people know about...and even fewer speak of. The mid to late 19th Century witnessed a panic, born of ancient superstitions, which swept the region. People became convinced that the dead were returning from their graves to feed upon the living, and a wave of terror overtook many of these communities. Meadowbrook believed itself to be at the center of these evil supernatural assaults, and extreme measures were taken by the people to protect themselves and their families. More than a century later, the village has become a thriving middle-class town. The Murphy family has relocated to this bustling community, and has found happiness and domestic tranquility, until it all goes wrong. Soon, a series of tragic events confronts both the family and the township.
