Students and fellow citizens - Although man claims dominion over the earth by divine right, he can only assert it by conquest. He maintains his mastery] only by effort. God has given him both the right and the means, but the condition is'the assertion of that right by the energetic employment of the means.

He holds relation both to the physical and spiritual world; his interests lie ln both and he can separate himself from neither the one is his world for time, the other for eternity. The one is undergoing perpetual and constant change, the other fixed and eternal. The condition and state of being in the last, depends upon the preparation made in the first.
