Agriculture is by far the most important of the world's economic activities, employing nearly half the total work-force. Methods vary enormously; some countries use computers, aeroplanes and all the most recent advances in industry and science; elsewhere a living is made with the simplest of tools, hardly changed over two or three thousand years. This book is an introduction to the study of agricultural geography, with much to offer the student at A-level as well as those following courses at universities and polytechnics. It aims to show that a wide range of factors explain how agricultural practices differ from place to place.
