Publisher's Synopsis
An Empirical Study of Effect of Values Education on the Behaviour of Students Abstract Values Education is a subject where the student learns how to think about a thing, person or a situation, deeply reflect, evaluate critically, appreciate one's own values and relate them with those of others. Unlike other subjects, Values Education helps the students develop better communication skills along with better decision making skills with the aim of all these concepts finding their way into their innate behaviours and ultimately into actions. Thus, values are not to be limited to the levels of mere knowledge or understanding but must percolate into the level of feeling and thereafter to the inner most behavioural domain to be expressed in their actions. Heartfulness is a simple and practical approach to 'Sahaj Marg' system of meditation offered by Heartfulness Institute of Shri Ram Chandra Mission, a 'not for profit' spiritual organization of global level. Heartfulness Institute launched its Relaxation program for school children in the year 2015. The present study explores the role of Values Education offered along with Heartfulness Relaxation technique in moulding the behaviour of students in a natural, spontaneous and sustainable manner in the positive direction. It is essentially an empirical study with a 'pretest ---- post-test' design. The sample size consisted of 280 students from grades IV and V, selected by random sampling from three participating schools. Following research questions were addressed in this study: (i) Was there was any significant difference in the pre-test and post-test scores of the sample group?
