Such diverse figures as Cotton Mather, Jonathan Edwards, Nat Turner, Sojourner Truth, Martin Luther King, Jr, Elizabeth Seton, Frances Willard, and Malcolm X are represented, and each selection is prefaced by biographical and bibliographical data. The volume also includes an introduction and an annotated bibliography of the 500 accounts from which the excerpted 100 were culled.
