Major and minor surgical Operations on children are occasionally followed by an alarming increase in acid production, or acidosis, as it is commonly called. Periodic vomiting of children, as well as many infectious diseases and disorders Of the alimentary canal, is aecom panied by an increased acid production. Even a casual survey of the literature leads to the impression that certain children are more suscept ible to acidosis than Others. The aim of the present work is to deter mine whether this individual susceptibility can be demonstrated experi mentally.
