Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from American Art Directory 1980
Catalogues accumulate very rapidly; here those of 1897-1898 are in one volume, arranged for easy reference. The complete catalogues of thirty-four exhibitions are given, containing more than titles of paintings and sculptures. Catalogues are not always accurate and yet it is on them that I must rely to a great extent. Where the errors were glaring they have been corrected, but if doubtful, were left as published by the society. The directories contain over names and addresses. The matter for the biographical notes was secured from data blanks sent to the artists, filled out by them and returned; from catalogues and various other sources. Where no mention is made, it is because my communies tions were not answered. Correct information will be gladly received.
