Publisher's Synopsis

Alphabetical can mean "expressed by or using an alphabet" and mathematical can mean "of or relating to mathematics." Put them together and you get Alphamaticals, fun and challenging two-in-one word and math logic puzzles. Alphamaticals are two-part puzzles where you find missing letters to common phrases or idioms and then find the numbers each letter can represent to solve arithmetic problems. For the word puzzle part we've strategically removed half the letters and give you one letter not used to help you to figure out the phrase. Once you find all the letters of the phrase you have to figure out what numbers they represent to solve an arithmetic problem. These types of puzzles are called word addition, alphametics, cryptarithmetics, or cryptarithms. They are ranked with two stars for the easier puzzles and 5 stars for the hardest. Don't let the possible number of solutions fool you - the more possibilities there are the harder it can be sometimes to solve the puzzle. An added benefit to solving these puzzles is a recent study found people who frequently engage in cognitively challenging activities like Alphamaticals were a lot less likely to develop brain plaques tied to Alzheimer's disease. Elderly patients with a lifetime of doing puzzles and reading books had brains comparable to healthy controls fifty years younger. So do your brain a favor and start solving puzzles like Alphamaticals. There are 150 puzzles with thousands of possible solutions guaranteed to rack your brain for hours and hours.
