Publisher's Synopsis
Information for this book came from reading many newspaper articles 1892- 1903, conveniently found at https: //virginiachronicle.com. Thanks to all of those who have made microfiche so accessible. Our digital world makes research easier! Most of the articles were in what is now The Richmond Times Dispatch, our current local newspaper, which began in 1904. I have paraphrased and taken ideas from these articles. Although others quote these articles, it is difficult to find exact citations. This tale is one I tell from my own lens after reading for so many months. These articles confirm what I have known since I arrived at the University of Richmond --our students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends are clever, hardworking, strong, determined, and kind. In 1920, the Collegian, our student newspaper, stated that, "The Spider was synonymous with success, good judgment and painstaking perseverance." All still true today. All proceeds from this book will go toward the University of Richmond scholarship fund.
