Publisher's Synopsis

Alif Baa: Introduction to Arabic Letters and Sounds, the first part of the Al-Kitaab language program, is intended for anyone interested in learning modern Arabic as a living language. This DVD contains the full material found previously on the videocassette that accompanies both the textbook and supplemental audio CDs for Alif Baa, providing it in a more accessible and maneuverable fashion. In teaching the sounds and letters of Arabic, the text and CDs provide a variety of exercises aimed at developing all skills: reading, listening, writing, speaking, and cultural understanding. In order to teach Arabic as used by Arabs, including social aspects of Arab culture, this DVD is especially helpful in introducing the student to the colloquial dialect of Cairo, the most widely spoken and understood dialect in the Arabic-speaking world.

It is in introducing about 150 basic vocabulary words, including social greetings and politeness formulae where this DVD, with skits filmed in Egypt, comes in most useful. Alif Baa lays the groundwork for the rest of the Al-Kitaab language program.
