A race of malevolent aliens from a planet orbiting the star Tau Ceti, plan to terraform Earth, for their own colonisation; by deploying a device to wipe out all life, turning it to Grey Goo. But not all of them agree on the ethical determination that Earth and its lifeforms are superfluous, and the few that don't, hatch plans to sabotage the operation by deploying a humanlike android on Earth to save it.After an unsuccessful attempt in 1979, in which they caused the sinking of the oil tanker, MS Berge Vanga, in the South Atlantic, in turn triggering the Vela Incident; they return again in 2016 with a vengeance. When their spaceship collides with a terrestrial satellite causing it to crash land in the Canadian tundra; the sole survivor, an android in the form of a young woman, emerges and chances upon the protagonist; an Ice Road Truck driver - Gene Hopper. After explaining herself and her mission to Gene, a widower with a six-year-old daughter, Gene reluctantly agrees to help her deactivate the terraforming device left behind in 79. The only problem is that it is hidden in a remote and desolate place; Marion Island in the Southern Indian ocean, unbeknown to anyone. Not only that but they find themselves on the run from the antagonist; a corrupt and murderous CIA operative. After a random meeting with a wealthy UFO conspiracy theorist, together they undertake a perilous journey to the Island while evading the nefarious CIA agent who will stop at nothing to ensure they get their hands on the alien technology.The fate of the world hangs in the balance, as they try to find and deactivate the hidden device, automatically set to trigger armageddon within hours of their arrival.
