Traditionally, Africa is seen as the last unspoilt continent, where vast herds of elephant, buffalo and wildebeest roam undisturbed by mankind. But as population explosion continues and natural habitats are degraded, this is no longer true. Many species are now faced with the threat of extinction. The book examines the plight of organisms in many groups, from mammals, birds and reptiles to amphibians and freshwater fishes. They include the elephant, the red-bellied monkey, the Liberian mongoose, the black rhino, the monk seal and the rarely seen Ethiopian wolf.
