This book examines archaeological research about African peoples who were brought to the Caribbean and their descendants in the twentieth century. The contributions cover a wide geographical sample ranging from Caribbean studies to individual investigations on twelve difference islands from the English, Dutch, Spanish and French territories. A broad spectrum of themes reveals the character of the African experience in the Caribbean from an archaeological perspective, with topics on life ways, landscapes, settlement patterns, housing, technological development, health, burial practices, economics, trade and cultural continuities. The illustrations include photographs of sites and artefacts, as well as precise drawings of many archaeological features noted at these sites from all parts of the Caribbean.
