Publisher's Synopsis
This book is based on the proceedings of a conference held at the Univeristy of Kent at Canterbury in June 1988. Between the 12 months between the germination of the idea and the conference itself the first cohort of students taking AS courses almost completed the first year of those courses. The Higgenson Report, Advancing A levels, was published and its main recommendations, for five leaner fitter courses, was rejected by the government. The full statement of the government's reasons for this rejection was given by Robert Jackson at this conference.
