Publisher's Synopsis

Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is a clinical condition in which there is a decreased blood flow in the coronary arteries. Thus, a part of the heart muscle fails to function properly and dies. The distinguishing feature of an acute coronary syndrome is chest pain radiating to the angle of the jaw or the left shoulder. It is often accompanied by nausea and sweating. ACS is associated with a set of three clinical manifestations- unstable angina, non ST elevation myocardial infarction and ST elevation myocardial infarction. An electrocardiogram is the first line of diagnosis that should be performed in case of acute chest pain. If the electrocardiogram indicates acute heart damage, the heart attack should be immediately addressed by performing angioplasty or thrombolysis. People presumed to have ACS are often prescribed aspirin, nitroglycerin or ticagrelor. This book contains some path-breaking studies in acute coronary syndrome. Also included in this book is a detailed explanation of the various diagnostic and therapeutic techniques in the management of acute coronary syndrome. The topics covered herein offer the readers new insights in this condition.
