This is the first in the Tantona Trilogy, and is set in 1989. In it, we meet three women: Mandy, a young reporter struggling with her orientation; Tina, a librarian who fears that her family's history of Huntington's disease is about to come true for her; and Cat, a platonically married bookkeeper about to launch her new-wave band. Mandy thinks the connection only extends to their sexual orientation, but soon finds out that roots run much deeper. Can spitfire Sherron help her unravel the ties that bind?
