Publisher's Synopsis

Jody Fletcher, a young teacher from Montreal, finds an apartment above a shoemaker's store in a small rural town in Ontario, to be close to the school where she starts her teaching career. She soon falls in love with a local electrician, Theo Patterson, who has lived in the area for a few years. He reminds Jody of her ex boyfriend whom she had loved for five years. She wants to start a meaningful friendship with Theo, but she is unable to make a commitment because she is trapped by two mayor forces. She is haunted by the memory of Tad Varta, her former lover, and is tormented by a man Joseph Bailey, whom she had turned to for comfort after her unexpected breakup. Joseph is an insensitive, ego centric man who under false pretences has gained her trust and plots to discredit Jody and to make her question her own sanity. His evil intentions has Jody under constant vigil. In order to change the course of her life, she must finally let Tad go and find a way to discourage Joseph from stalking and harassing her. Her small apartment above the cobbler gives her a sanctuary from her otherwise disturbing fate.
