As memories of the nineteenth century drama, with Louisa and Charles, begin to recede, she takes stock of the hospital room where her injured body is receiving treatment, following a traumatic event that changed her life, on 10 September, 1999. As she studies the child who is attempting to attract her attention and to take her on what seems to be a 'a wild goose chase'. the medication appears to take hold of her senses again. From there, Paula begins to focus her full consiousness on her American life, which she left behind her.
