This volume shows how analyses of the temporal relationships between AVHRR NDVI and rainfall have not been able to show any strong relationships. This suggests that the AVHRR NDVI data can be used for drought and vegetation, but are severely limited for monitoring. Although monitoring may not be possible with the data , useful information regarding the phenological characteristics of vegetation can be extracted. This information can be used for spatial mapping and as input to ecosystem models.
