Growing up in Australia to Asian migrants brings with it not only the joys of the generation gap but a cultural one as well. Whilst I was fortunate to not have "Tiger parents", my upbringing was probably rather typical of a first-generation daughter in a Western society.Fast forward to today where I am an independent adult. My interactions with my parents seem to have shifted to be somewhat comical at times when a healthy combination of "old skool" Asian logic and Chinglish is applied to modern Western life. You'll soon see why my mother stresses about my complexion getting "duck" (dark). Much to her dismay, becoming tanned is a part of life for an Aussie dragon boater - coincidentally a sport of Chinese origins.Having recounted some of these dialogues with my peers in conversation and through social media, it's been mentioned countless times that these little interactions with my parents should be shared with the wider community to enjoy and appreciate.Every conversation you read in this book really happened.
