On gaining the top of this gorge-like valley, well above the tree-line, and, after scaling a steep wall of broken rock, I came upon a valley which, with its twisted walls and rocky bottom, might be inferno itself; yet nowhere but in heaven could there __reign such peace; not a sound, not a movement; a great feeling of lonliness surged up in me and the desire to hear the thundering roar of a boulder rolling from the topmost p'eaks.
